MON STATE –  The Journey is the Destination

The traveler who visits the city of Mawlamyine either has plenty of time to spare and wants to see the beauty of Myanmar off the beaten track, or has been to the country before and has returned to see and discover more as so many tourists do. Yet to go solely for the purpose of arriving in “Moulmein” (as it was known under the British) is to do a grave disservice to the journey you must take to get there; in a sentiment captured most appositely by the Greek poet Constantine Kavafis in his poem Ithaca, in this case it really is the journey and not the destination that counts.
